The European Union is interested in a plan to block sunlight to prevent global warming. According to a document seen by Bloomberg, the EU is developing a framework to combat climate change that will examine this idea, which is backed by Bill Gates and George Soros.
Bill Gates, for example, supported a project by Harvard University scientists to spray calcium carbonate into the atmosphere in the sky over northern Scandinavia in 2021.
The project was eventually shelved following the outrage of the local population and environmentalists. Jeff Bezos is using Amazon's supercomputing capabilities to model the effects of plans to inject massive amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2) into the atmosphere. Dustin Moskovitz, the billionaire co-founder of Facebook, has given $900,000 to scientists in Mali, Brazil, Thailand and other countries to study the potential effects of solar geoengineering. Even the smaller ones got in on the action: venture capitalists gave a combined $750,000 to a company that promised to implement a project using sulfur dioxide. A company called Make Sunsets conducted its first US tests last week, releasing balloons containing SO2 in Nevada.
