The Democratic Party is putting increasing pressure on the Biden administration to follow through on extreme climate change rhetoric, and according to some news sources, President Joe Biden is preparing to sign a decree declaring a "climate emergency" that would give him the authority to take restrictive measures for an unlimited period of time. Here, ideas such as gas rationing, electricity consumption or air traffic restrictions can come into play.
All of this is done by Joe Biden in collaboration with the UN Environmental Protection Program (UNEP). The UN website already has a climate emergency page ( https://www.unep.org/climate-emergency ), which states on the one hand that “The science is clear. The world is in a climate emergency and we need to go into emergency mode.” On the other hand, it also lists what these emergency actions are:
(1) providing cutting-edge research supporting scientifically based decision-making;
(2) supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy;
(3) enabling communities to adapt to changing circumstances;
(4) financing climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
According to UNEP, the only option is to rapidly transform societies due to insufficient progress in tackling climate change.
US industry leaders are worried about the expected measures. Tim Stewart, president of the US Oil and Gas Association, for example, said that declaring an emergency would give the president "enormous and unchecked power to shut down everything from communications to infrastructure," adding that climate critics would be censored "if anyone disagrees with the climate emergency." , they are silenced," said the industry leader.
The announcement of the climate emergency from the very beginning, since Al Gore placed it at the center of his political program, the agenda of the distorted left of the West and the madness has unfortunately spread to the eastern half of Europe. Here, for example, the LMP, which presents itself as a green party, wants to declare a climate emergency, and unfortunately there are also many elements in the government programs, such as increasing the capacity of the solar power plant to 12,000 MW, which not only mean wasted money, even economic damage, but also environmental pollution. The fluctuating performance of solar and wind power plants must be equalized, which can be achieved either by re-regulating nuclear power plants (this is the obvious economic damage) or by setting up additional gas power plants and expensive energy storage equipment. And solar panels that break down over time result in hazardous waste.
The UN Environment Program's emergency declaration says that science has given a clear answer to climate change, when all they have achieved is to silence scientists who hold a different opinion, and their own version is broadcast 24/7 in all possible media. This hysteria will pass in the same way as the "new ice age is coming" hysteria of the seventies, which was much more moderate than the current one.
The biggest damage of the climate emergency and the whole climate hysteria is that it prevents actual adaptation to climate change. We should not build solar and wind power plants, but water reservoirs and breed drought-tolerant plants. In addition to this, of course, the energy used must be conserved as much as is reasonable. This can be achieved, for example, by properly insulating buildings, using local energy sources (geothermal energy) and especially by manufacturing durable, repairable products, because then the same need can be met with much less energy than with the current "throw it away and buy a new one" mentality.
