One of the most important objectives of the Szent Ágota Child Protection Service is that young people living in child protection care, who are forced to live without their biological families, grow up in an environment where they are loved and accepted unconditionally, and where they are surrounded by a happy atmosphere full of experiences, rich in opportunities. Seven foster parents completed the training in the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok in recent months.
Anna Petrovszki, the executive deputy director responsible for the management of the Adult Education Institution of the ÁGOTA Foundation, emphasized during the handing over of the certificates that the first step of becoming a foster parent has been completed, the next is that children can come to you.
"Something has ended, but at the same time you have started something new." Now the hard part is coming, but don't forget that you are not alone - he encouraged the new foster parents of the network.
We are a big community, we all work to help foster parents, because you take care of our children
he added.
When applying, they check whether the prospective foster parent meets the prerequisites, such as providing a suitable living environment or his personality, but the twenty-fourth year of age and a criminal record are also on the list. If the conditions are met, the sixty-hour course can follow, during which the applicants receive information about the healthy development of the child, issues related to trust and stability.
– At the end of the first stage, they have enough information to make a decision as to whether they really want this profession. This is what the course is based on, which consists of pedagogical, psychological, medical, health and legal elements, he explained.
Katalin Mihályi, the professional manager of the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county foster care network, pointed out that there are 154 foster parents in the region, with 500 children being raised.
– Foster parents are getting old, there is a need for rejuvenation. Our goal is to strengthen the provision of temporary assistance by involving new foster parents and to replace elderly colleagues who are preparing for retirement. Thus, we are also planning additional trainings, the greatest need for applicants is in and around Tiszafüred, as well as in the Karcag area, he pointed out.
In his greeting, he explained that in the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, they have found treasures in the person of currently graduating foster parents, and he also confirmed the importance of the community.
