The holiday will be held in the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park, where the locals gathered for the first time more than 100 years ago to remember leader Árpád.
The Árpád monument, built in the millennium year of 1896, became a national memorial site of national significance. For the first time, on August 8, 1897, a farewell was organized in honor of the leader of the occupying Hungarians. Mass was always connected to the gatherings, which is why the locals began to refer to the commemorations held on the feast day of the Little Virgin as "statutory farewells".
During the First World War, the spectacular celebrations were interrupted, and the events of the 1919 revolution prevented the annual farewell procession around the statue. The event was revived in the 1930s, and its date was moved from August to September. After the war and the distribution of land, the event became vacant, and the last ceremony was held at the monument in 1946 according to the old traditions.
With the original message of the Szobori farewell, it was revived more than a decade and a half ago, on the 1100th anniversary of Árpád's death, in 2007, and since then, on the first Sunday of September, a mass is presented in the ruins of the former Benedictine monastery, celebrated this year by the Bishop of Szeged-Csanád, László Kiss-Rigó.
After the celebratory mass, a horse show from the time of the conquest will entertain the assembled, visitors can try out traditional bows in the Nomád park, children's games await the guests in the open-air museum in addition to the industrial workshops, oven delicacies are baked at the Hódmezővásárhely farm reading circle, and a horse-drawn carriage skill competition is organized in the early afternoon on Nagyrét.
