Zelenskiy expressed surreal expectations in an interview on Sunday: if the US and Europe do not pay the costs of the Ukrainian election, there will be no election. Bring you the rule of law...
In peacetime, it costs approximately 130 million dollars to hold elections, but due to the war situation, this can even increase several times.
In a TV interview on Sunday, the Ukrainian president explained that due to the current state of war, according to the law, it is forbidden to hold elections, because it would be extremely difficult to hold them. (In Ukraine, martial law must be extended every 90 days, and if it is extended the next time, on November 15, it will expire just before the planned presidential election, in March 2024.)
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskiy added that if the members of parliament are "ready", then the electoral law can be amended, and - as he put it -
if the United States, together with Europe, is willing to donate money for this, then the elections will be held.
He stated that all this would not be done with loans, he expects donations from Western countries, which expect the strengthening of democracy in Ukraine. According to his claim, he has already discussed this with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who visited Kyiv last week.
The Ukrainian president could not say exactly how much it would cost to organize the elections, he only revealed that in peacetime, costs of nearly 135 million dollars (about HUF 45 billion) would be expected, which would probably be orders of magnitude more in the current situation.
In the interview, Zelensky also mentioned that the cleanliness of the elections would be given the highest priority, and for this purpose the election observers would even go into the trenches.
"Observers must be sent into the trenches to make the election legitimate"
- said the head of state of Ukraine.
