"Budapest can and must be won," said Gábor Kubatov, Fidesz's vice-president and party director and president of the Ferencvárosi Torna Club, in relation to next year's local government elections.
In his Facebook posts, Gábor Kubatov has already called Gergely Karácsony "left brake", "Mr. Bankruptcy Trustee", "do-nothing grand master", "not very smart", "two-handed", "out of business", and most recently also "testosterone". In this regard, the party director said:
"I don't really like the guy. As a Budapester, I simply have a hard time with this type of guy at the head of the city. I valued Gábor Demszky's first term as mayor, but not the next, because after that he only had his camera around his neck. But even he did not cause as much damage to this city as Gergely Karácsony," emphasized Kubatov.
"You can't make a drawing competition out of the streets of Budapest! It is no longer possible to cross an intersection without everything being scribbled. Besides, I don't know if he's just being stupid or just ignorant day and night. He said that one lane of Hegyalja út will be taken away from motorists, only buses can use it while the Chain Bridge is being renovated. The Chain Bridge is finished, of course he left it as it is, and now you can only drive on one lane. What is the point of this?” - listed the party director.
According to Gábor Kubatov, Budapest has also slipped out of the mayor's hands economically, because it is impossible for him to spend the city's money, which István Tarlós handed over with an extra HUF 200 billion in the coffers in addition to the increasing tax revenues.
"Of course, this is not at all surprising, since practically the entire Gyurcsány government is behind Karácsony as an adviser or in some leading position. Margaret Thatcher had a brilliant saying about these situations: »The trouble with socialists is that sooner or later they always run out of other people's money«. This is also the case with Gergelly Karácsony: he always runs out of other people's money," Kubatov pointed out.
Gergely Karácsony says that the government is closing the money taps, but according to the party director, the fact is that tax revenues are increasing.
"They can collect more money than in István Tarlós' time, so there is something else wrong here".
Gábor Kubatov responded to the suggestion that, according to the public opinion polls known so far, Gergely Karácsony is performing well among Budapest voters, and that Tímea Szabó previously stated that "according to Fidesz's internal measurements, Gergely Karácsony's support in the capital is 60 percent" :
"Because Tímea Szabó must know what is in our internal measurements... I don't think the majority of Budapest residents are satisfied with the mayor's work either. But he says, is it possible to be satisfied with that at all? What did Gergely Karácsony build in Budapest? Four years have passed since his election. Which building, road, street or road section renovation can you say is the result of your city management? Let's not even mention Blaha Lujza Square, which he built with state money, because it is a disaster in itself. The public toilet in the square - of which he is so proud that he even took a selfie with it - is now the home of pros and drug addicts. But let's put that aside for now. The former minister of the left, Miklós Persányi, as director of the zoo during the time of István Tarlós, came up with an excellent idea for the zoo. The construction of the biodome was then not completed, for example due to increased costs. They haven't even touched it in the last four years, and now it's standing in shame. It is an excellent building, a Budapest attraction, which could have been completed with a pittance compared to the total investment. But they didn't. This is also a blunder, a case that people think about with indignation".
According to Gábor Kubatov, Fidesz can and should win Budapest, and added: he sees a realistic chance for this.
The party director of Fidesz did not name potential mayor candidates, but he stated that he knows of at least eight people who would be suitable challengers to Gergely Karácsony. He also added: the candidate for mayor of the ruling party, who will challenge Gergely Karácsony, simply has to love Budapest more than the reigning leader.
The European Parliament election in 2024 will be held on the same day as the local government. In this regard, Kubatov stated: we must win that election as well.
"I haven't seen measurements related to the European Parliament election yet, but there is still almost a year left until then. Obviously, we need a large-scale victory, but not only for us, but also for the Hungarian people. If we let everything in Europe continue as it has been, it will be bad for the Hungarians. The Union must change its stance on war. It is shocking, by the way, that peace concerts were held during all the wars in the past decades, and now there is not even a mention of peace. This is quite amazing, this must be changed," he emphasized.
Kubatov also spoke about the need for zero tolerance towards the gender issue in Hungary, we cannot go any further: we must stand up for our children and grandchildren.
"Some people say that migration is a broken bone, but this is not the case. At the Hungarian borders, law enforcement agencies stop hundreds of thousands of illegal invaders. I see that migration distorts the whole of Europe. They will attack, blackmail and torture us to let go of this topic, but no matter how difficult it will be, we must not let go, not even one iota. This is the stake of next year's European Parliament election".
Gábor Kubatov also expressed his opinion about the re-election of the former mayor of Fidesz, Zsolt Borkai, in Győr.
"He became the alternative candidate of the left, but he probably didn't realize it yet. The entire leftist media is behind it. How interesting that those who belittled him at the time are now helping him, isn't it? Doesn't he notice that? I never thought he was very smart. I thought he had found his peace, escaped this scandal, and maybe now, after four years, he dares to go out into the streets, among the people. I thought he was satisfied with that," said the party director, adding that he would regret Győr if he elected Borkai.
