Negotiations between Ukraine and Hungary regarding the education and language use of Transcarpathian Hungarians can begin this week.

Ukraine is ready to change the laws affecting national minorities in order to advance the accession process to the European Union, said Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanisina. Stefanisina stated that Ukraine is ready to change the mainly educational laws affecting national minorities, such as Transcarpathian Hungarians, if "the right balance is created" between teaching in Ukrainian and other languages, the Financial Times wrote.

They pointed out that, in addition to corruption problems, measures affecting the rights of national minorities have so far been the biggest obstacle in Ukraine's EU accession process.

Negotiations between Ukraine and Hungary, as well as Ukraine and Romania, are expected to begin this week, the main topic of which will be the education and language use of the minorities living in Ukraine.

At the same time, the negotiations will not necessarily be successful, since according to Olga Sztefanisina, the current system already "works great".
