In the competition, which moved 200,000 people and 2,000 schools in the spring, in addition to students, parents and teachers, anyone who wants to help the school of their choice with exercise can participate. The challenge also appeals to the older age group through more than 170 domestic walking clubs.
In a week, on September 25, Hungary's largest movement-encouraging program will start again, organized by the Association of Hungarian Organ Transplants, with the support of the Aktív Hungary program, the Prime Minister's Office announced.
The Million Steps for Life program was launched in 2021 to promote health-related information and active exercise. This year's spring competition moved 200,000 people and 2,000 schools. In addition to students, parents and teachers, anyone who wants to help the school of their choice with exercise can participate.
Schools can get HUF one million
The essence of the challenge is for the contestants to virtually walk along and get to know the hiking routes and the most beautiful sights of the National Blue Circle, during which the application shares daily interesting facts about the sights, the preservation of health and the importance of exercise. During the game, participants collect "steps" for the selected school. The steps of the players registered with the schools are added up and displayed on the route of the National Blue Circle. For every completed National Blue Circle (2,586 kilometers) there is a "raffle ticket", and if five are collected, the participants can go to buy sports equipment for 1 million forints each offered to a hundred schools.
At the end of the challenge, one hundred active and lucky schools will once again receive HUF 1 million for the purchase of sports equipment.
Each week in the program, a different athlete, artist, well-known public figure or person with an organ transplant inspires movement.
Older people should also join
The challenge also appeals to the older age group: there are more than 170 walking clubs operating in Hungary today, which consider it their task to ensure that the over-60 age group moves regularly and participates in social programs. This is why these clubs can also participate in the autumn round of the game, they can also register in the application. The activity of the walking clubs is also rewarded: 500 Nordic Walking sticks will be drawn among those who complete at least one round of the National Blue Circle.
