Dávid Losonczi, the silver medalist at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, revealed that the president of the international federation personally apologized to him after the final, which he lost in controversial circumstances.
The Hungarian grappling wrestler lost to Ali Cengiz of Turkey 8-7 in the final of the 87-kilogram category on Sunday, but Losonczi kept his opponent in a dangerous position for almost a minute, and the referee twice gave Losonczi the two-shoulder laydown, which would have ended the match for Losonczi in his favor, but the scoring judge and the mat chairman did not give permission for this.
The Hungarian Wrestling Federation (MBSZ) took official steps to review the final, and Dávid Losonczi revealed that the president of the international federation (UWW) also spoke to him immediately after the match.
"I've improved a lot mentally in the past period, I feel like I've made it. A champion doesn't just have to act like a champion when he wins. That's why I accepted the final result completely calmly, I didn't go crazy, even though I had reason to. After the final, many coaches came to me, all of them were of the opinion that I should have won. The president of the International Wrestling Federation, Nenad Lalovics, contacted me and personally apologized for the refereeing. Unfortunately, this is how sport is, but I believe that life gives back. , which he once took. I will definitely do everything to get back what I lost here," Losonczi told Nemzeti Sport .
The 23-year-old Hungarian wrestler also said that overall he is already happy with the World Cup medal and especially with the Olympic quota. In Paris, Losonczi's goal will clearly be to win the gold medal next summer.
