The oldest citizen of Zala, Erzsébet Józsefné Szekszárdi from Hévíz, who turned 106 this summer, received a papal blessing.

The document signed by Pope Francis was handed over to the old woman the other day by László Kiss, the parish priest, and Gábor Papp, the mayor.

The certificate reads: "On the occasion of her 106th birthday, His Holiness Pope Francis gives his apostolic blessing on the life, family members and friends of Józsefné Szekszárdi, asking for the gift of abundant heavenly graces and consolations and the constant help of the Blessed Virgin Mary".

- He has a very strong faith, and this, as well as prayer, helps him on this long life's journey - Father László said.

"I asked him once how he was doing. He replied: so how would I be? I can't hear properly, I can't see properly, my prosthesis has turned out, but I feel good and I accept everything that the Good Lord gives. If you call me now, I'm ready to meet you."

László Kiss reminded me: At the age of 94, Aunt Erzsi bought four hundred square meters of land by herself, and according to her own admission, work always kept her alive. And she distributed the harvest, Father László added, emphasizing that the whole life of the now 106-year-old woman was like this: she gave and helped everyone.

Erzsébet was born in Nagykanizsa on June 28, 1917, during World War I, and always lived in faith; previously he was also involved in the work of the parish in Hévíz. Last year, he revealed his life wisdom: "The poor can be happy too, just don't hate it."

"I took note of everything, because it is the grace of the Good Lord that keeps mental balance," said Józsefné Szekszárdi last year, on her 105th birthday, revealing that she gladly gave to those who had less than her, what she got back a hundredfold from life.

And the old woman's recipe for life remains unchanged to this day, according to her the secret of a long life: in addition to deep faith, a little wine a day...
