The residents of Israel woke up to a huge rain of rockets on Saturday morning: Hamas fired more than five thousand rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, and by now quite chaotic conditions have developed in the country.
Péter Breuer, Middle East expert and founding owner of Heti TV, spoke to Magyar Nemzet about the situation in the region.
- Hamas terrorists have infiltrated the borders from Gaza and are now shooting at the civilian population. Rockets rained down on the southern part of Israel, but Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv are also being hit by the shots, Péter Breuer, Middle East expert and founding owner of Heti TV, explained to Magyar Nemzet.
The expert stated that there is a war in Israel.
"We strongly condemn the brutal attack on Israel and we unequivocally support Israel's right to self-defense. I would like to express my sympathy and condolences to the Prime Minister, Benjámín Netanyahu. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel in these dark hours," writes Viktor Orbán in his X post.
On Saturday morning, thousands of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel, and then Hamas fighters invaded the country's territory as well. Péter Breuer said that several kibbutzim were occupied by terrorists and
people are massacred one by one, prisoners are taken. The population fled to shelters, where the terrorists are also trying to break in. Israeli television and radio broadcast the events live.
The expert pointed out that right now is the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, but the big difference between the fighting now and then is that the Palestinians did not attack the military on Saturday, but the civilians.
The expert said that the biggest question now is how the Palestinians were able to cause such a surprise to Israel - given that not only is it a year of anniversaries, but the Palestinians have recently carried out huge deceptive military exercises. "They were prepared for this, and it seems that it caught the Israelis by surprise," he said. Péter Breuer explained that in the hours following the attack, the Israeli army was immediately mobilized. Although the military did not provide exact numbers, it is certain that there are several locations in Israel where a firefight broke out between terrorists and Israeli soldiers.
