The district court in Marosvásárhely rejected the appeal of the Hargita County Council, so the Békás Strait still belongs to the administrative area of Neamț County.
Adrian Niță, prefect of Neamț county, announced information about the decision on his Facebook page.
"The appeals court in Marosvásárhely made a verdict! The administrative border between the counties of Hargita and Neamț has been settled once and for all.
In the midst of heated debates and multiple court proceedings, the administrative border on the Gyergyószentmiklós-Gyergyótölgyes-Békás section was reaffirmed!
Despite the fact that the Court of Appeal in Ploiesti had previously decided on this issue, the Hargita County Council tried again. However, the decision of the Marosvásárhely Court of Appeal leaves no room for interpretation. The Békás Gorge, with its indisputable beauty, belongs to Neamț county!” - announced the prefect happily.
Adrian Niță already said that at first he did not understand why the case had to be brought to court again, since a final judgment had already been made in connection with the Békás Strait - read on maszol.ro
In relation to the county border, the people of Székelyföld won a lawsuit at the basic level in 2019, and the area with great tourist attraction was annexed to Gyergyószentmiklós. However, Neamț County appealed to the District Court in Ploiești, as a result of which the county border favorable to Moldovans was restored.
In 2022, the Hargita County Council initiated another court proceeding in the case at the Hargita County Court, citing that the border established in the protocol is not the same as the one in the 1968 Act on Administrative Borders in Romania. According to Székelyföld's reasoning, since this is also a county border, representatives of the relevant county municipalities should have been included in the committee that designated the border, the portal reads.
