With almost 100 percent of the votes cast in the Polish elections processed, it can be stated that the victory of Law and Justice (PiS) seems certain, its ability to govern is even less, in other words, we can prepare for a change of government in Poland.

On the website of the National Election Commission (PKW) on Monday evening, the state of the voting was announced at 99.87 percent processed, which means that the current results cannot change substantially, regardless of the official final result to be announced later, the most important questions have been decided.

For example, the ruling party led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski

Law and Justice (PiS) won the elections, but did not obtain the absolute majority needed to govern, and it cannot obtain it together with its only possible coalition partner, the Confederation, because only the opposition coalition led by Donald Tusk has a chance.

According to the 99.87 percent processed, the parties that entered the parliament achieved the following result:

Law and Justice (PiS): 35.44 percent

Civic Coalition (KO): 30.65 percent

Third Road: 14.41 percent

Left: 8.59 percent

Confederation: 7.15 percent

Based on the almost final results, the percentage of seats in the Polish parliament is expected to be as follows:

Law and Justice (PiS): 196 seats

Civic Coalition (KO): 158 seats

Third Way: 61 mandates

Left: 30 seats

Confederation: 15 seats.

These results mean that a change of government is certainly coming in Poland.

President Andrzej Duda confirmed last week: in accordance with the Polish parliamentary election custom, he will entrust the winning party with the formation of a government after the elections. At the press conference held in Rome on Monday afternoon, the president emphasized: "we must calmly wait" for the election results. He underlined: "democracy in Poland is stable".

The participation rate of 74 percent was a record high in the history of elections after 1989.

The result of the referendum organized at the same time as the parliamentary elections became invalid. The referendum would have been valid if more than half of those entitled to vote had participated in it, but the participation rate was 41 percent.

The zloty opened with strength. According to press reports, investors were expecting a breakthrough from the left, and exit polls confirmed their expectations.

PiS is still trying

At the same time, PiS indicated that it will try to form a government as the party that received the most votes in the election. On Monday morning, it seemed that the Third Passenger wanted to win over the Polish People's Party, but its spokesperson and several politicians stated that they are not willing to cooperate with Law and Justice in any way.

"It is too early to speculate today, but we are open to different negotiations ," PiS politician Radosław Fogiel said in response to the question that

can PiS hand over the prime minister's chair to the Third Way in exchange for joining the coalition.

"We will talk to everyone who will be in the Sejm, who thinks pro-state, who would be willing not to give in to Tusk's diktat, which is just around the corner," Fogiel continued.

It is worth noting that customary law does not bind PiS President Andrzej Duda. The head of state can even invite someone from the opposition to form a government if it seems that Law and Justice will not be able to do so. However, this is less likely, at least based on the statement of presidential adviser Andrzej Zybertowicz.

The professor said in TVP1:

"When I think of the millions of Poles who voted for the opposition, I am convinced that there are many who really have Poland in their hearts. However, these people did not get a concrete picture of what kind of country the centrist-left bloc wants to build."
