Three Hungarian buildings were awarded gold: the Hungarian Music House won gold, the Ethnographic Museum won silver, and Nyugati Pályaudvar won bronze at the World Roofing Championship (IFD Award) in Merano, Italy, announced the Hungarian Association of Building Insulators, Roofers, Tinsmiths and Carpenters (ÉMSZ).
The IFD includes national roofing associations and 15,000 roofing companies from 22 countries. In the worldwide professional organization, Hungary is represented by ÉMSZ.
The world championship is held every two years, in every odd year, and this year the United States, the Republic of South Africa and China were also represented in addition to the European countries. At the world competition, the jury accepted 87 applications as valid, including 9 projects nominated by ÉMSZ, three of which were placed on the podium. Regular members of the IFD, the national associations, can apply in the flat roof, sheet metal covering, facade and high roof categories.
In the announcement, Levente Szalai, managing director of ÉMSZ, explained that Metal Hungaria Holding Zrt. won the gold medal in the flat roof section at the October 13 award ceremony with the extravagant roof insulation of the Magyar Zene Háza, Renomé-Bau Kft. and Lajta- Duna Építő és Vízszigetelő Kft. with their joint project, the special roof structure of the Museum of Ethnography. Horex Kft. won the bronze medal in the sheet metal roofing category with the roof of the Nyugati railway station. Magyar Építő Zrt. was the general contractor at the Magyar Zene Háza and the Nyugati railway station.
They highlighted this year's outstanding success for Hungarian insulation and tinsmith specialists on the international stage, which proves that the preparation of Hungarian roofing specialists is just as outstanding as their Swiss, Austrian, and German colleagues.
In addition to the Hungarian buildings, the Tallinn Cathedral was also awarded at the World Cup in the sheet metal roofing category.
They recalled that at the previous IFD AWARD in 2021, Horex Kft. became world champion with the roof of Budavári Lovarda in the sheet metal roofing category, Pilisi Pléh-Boy Kft. and Zoltán Németh won a silver medal in the same category with the roof of the Károlyi-Csekonics Palace and also Tető-Kovács Kft. and Bőszén és Társa Bt. won silver medals in the facade category with Tőzsdetojás from Kecskemét.
ÉMSZ is an organization supported by its members (individuals and businesses) and supporting members. The aim of the association, founded in 1988, is to help the development and protection of the interests of the building insulation, roofing, tinsmith and carpentry professions.
