The Biodóm can collapse at any time, there is no money for heating anymore. Anett Bősz told Népszava

The deputy mayor responsible for culture said that the city administration had postponed this final step until now, but now there is nowhere to back down. It turned out that the maintaining Budapest municipality had to spend 50-53 million per month on the Biodóm.

According to the summary of the Capital Zoo and Botanical Garden (FÁNK), between November 2022 and May 2023 alone, more than half a billion forints were consumed by the maintenance of the Biodóm in a reduced mode. Of this, personal expenses amounted to HUF 119 million, property expenses to HUF 348 million, while other - accumulation - expenses amounted to HUF 18 million. its management received permission to utilize the half-finished facility, for example as a venue for concerts, conferences, film shoots or choir competitions. However, no more than HUF 36 million came in from this, so the maintaining capital municipality had to spend HUF 50-53 million per month on the Biodóm.

After the municipal elections, the cost of completion was estimated at 13-17 billion, but according to the city manager, several times that amount, on the order of 60 billion forints, would be needed to equip the facility

, for its population with animals and plants. "And this is apparently not only in the coffers of the capital, but also in the central budget, which has a severe lack of resources," added the deputy mayor.

At the same time, Anett Bősz did not deny that a minimum degree of heat is absolutely necessary to maintain the hugely inflated city park bubble.

If the building is not tempered, the triangles on top of the multi-billion roof structure, visible from the outside, will simply collapse and the roof will get wet.

The Karácsonys are pushing the capital into a spiral of debt

The capital's left-wing leadership is moving this year's bank obligations to the BKK to next year, leaving Budapest with fifty billion forints in debt.

The mayor approved the conclusion of framework agreements for the purchase of receivables between BKK and K&H Faktor Pénzügyi Szolgáltató Zrt. on the one hand, and OTP Bank Nyrt. on the other.

With this, the left is pushing the capital into an even deeper abyss, as they are pushing their obligations this year to next year, so that

where applicable, a newly-led municipality should repay the loan and interest.

It is known: the capital's left-wing leadership has been complaining for months that there is not enough money to operate Budapest. Earlier, General Deputy Mayor Kiss Ambrus stated that: in June, the capital's account stood at minus HUF 1.1 billion, meaning that the city lives on overdrafts. 45 percent of the annual planned revenue was received, including 51 percent of the business tax. The amount planned for 2023 is more than 271 billion forints, more than half of which was received at the end of June, i.e. 139 billion forints.

The Karácsonys managed to overcome the failed financial situation of the capital by inheriting HUF 214 billion in reserves from István Tarlós after the municipal election in 2019.

Regarding the public transport companies in Budapest, it should be highlighted that Gergely Karácsony approved the awarding of a total of HUF 65 million in bonuses to the managers of BKK and BKV just one day before he announced the drastic increase in ticket prices citing the financial situation of the two companies.

Katalin Walter, the CEO of the Budapest Transport Center Zrt., received HUF 9.96 million, Zsolt Szarka, the company's operational deputy CEO, HUF 8.8 million, and Ágnes Diószegi, the company's customer relations and sales deputy CEO, also received a HUF 8.8 million bonus.

Gergely Karácsony reacted to the premium scandal in a Facebook post. According to him, the company managers are entitled to the premium because they have fulfilled the specific commitments necessary for this - it can be read in Magyar Nemzet .
