On November 16, the film Libertate '89 – Sibiu, about the events of the revolution that overthrew the communist regime in Romania, will be released.

The Hungarian-Romanian co-production of the director Tudor Giurgiu's work, in addition to authentic presentation of an important historical situation and the human characters in it, offers twists and turns suitable for an action film.

According to the story, on December 22, 1989, more and more people took to the streets in Transylvania's Sibiu to demonstrate against Nicolae Ceausescu's communist regime. After Ceausescu flees Bucharest in a helicopter, the military moves to the side of the protesters.

Bloody battles begin between the revolutionaries, the soldiers, the police and members of the secret police. After a desperate attempt to escape the siege, the protagonist, police captain Viorel, played by Alex-Cornel Calangiu, is captured by the army and charged with terrorism.

“At first I wanted to stay away from this topic because of its controversy. But when I delved into the events - with three years of research work - I thought that, for the sake of young people, it is my generation's duty to talk about that period," the informative director Tudor Giurgiu quotes, according to whom there has been no public apology, the 1989 revolution is the Romanian society's to this day he has not processed it.

The act of closure, which was supposed to happen after the communist regime was defeated, never happened.

The change never happened. Therefore, the aim of the film is to paint an accurate picture of the chaos at that time and to explain why the real killers were not brought to justice for years, emphasized the film's director.
