It is difficult for Kiev to bear the fact that it has been removed from the forefront of international interest, it is trying to regain attention with the eternal weapon.
The contract for the transit of Russian gas expires at the end of next year and Ukraine "cannot extend it", Naftogaz head Oleksiy Chernysov said. In an interview with DW Business News, he called on the EU to speed up the withdrawal from Russian gas.
According to Chernysov, the only reason Ukraine is still allowing Russian gas through is to support European Union countries, "especially landlocked countries."
At the same time, according to DW's description, Chernysov called on the EU to accelerate the withdrawal from Russian gas consumption and to do so earlier than planned, by 2027.
When asked about the increase in imports of Russian liquefied natural gas into the EU, Chernysov responded: “Supporting Russia by buying Russian gas during the war is ridiculous. And we see that Russia has used natural gas and oil as a weapon. Energy was used as a weapon. And we say that cheap gas has a price".
Chernysov admitted that it will take time to stop importing Russian gas to the EU.
"We all understand that the capacity and opportunities for alternative gas supply are limited, especially because of LNG terminals," Chernysov noted. The head of Naftogaz told DW: Ukraine can be the energy hub of the EU in the future.
