The death of István Pásztor is a tragedy for our country, his family, his friends and the Hungarians of Vojvodina - said Aleksandar Vucsics in the Serbian Happy TV program Tyirilica.
As we reported yesterday, István Pásztor, president of the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina and the provincial parliament, died at the age of sixty-seven after a serious illness. His son Bálint Pásztor also confirmed the news of his death on his social media page. The Serbian president said that he had recently visited István Pásztor in the hospital in Sabtka, who, as the head of state said, was in a good mood.
Then he asked István Vucsics Pásztor not to hold the Serbian parliamentary elections on December 24, because it is a holiday for Hungarians.
"I replied that there is no problem, we will hold the elections on December 17.
A few days ago, I met Viktor Orbán, then he said that István's condition was very bad. István Pásztor did the most to establish friendly relations between Hungarians and Serbs. That is why history will also mention it.
For all these actions, we plan to erect a monument in his honor.
István Pásztor, president of the Vojvodina Hungarian Association, has passed away
This is the least that the man who had the strength and energy to free the Hungarian and Serbian nations from the grip of hatred deserves. I will forever be grateful to István Pásztor for his support and his love for Serbia and the Hungarian nation," said Aleksandar Vucsics.
He served his homeland and community all his life - He was István Pásztor
