A few days ago, the tax authorities were able to visit the law office of the mayor's confidant.
In connection with Gergely Karácsony's hallmark 99 Movement, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) may have conducted a house search at Csaba Tordai's law office, the Magyar Nemzet has learned. Authorities have been investigating several suspected crimes in the opposition scandal for months.
As part of an investigation launched on suspicion of budget fraud, money laundering and the use of false private documents, the tax authority conducted a house search on Thursday at the law office of Csaba Tordai - this can be inferred from the response of the NAV, which it gave to the request of the Magyar Nemzet.
"NAV employees searched and seized evidence in a Budapest law firm in connection with micro-donations collected in donation boxes as part of criminal proceedings," reads the tax authority's response.
The other day, one of the pages for downtown residents shared interesting information on Facebook. A post appeared in the 5th district - Itt lakunk group, according to which NAV people appeared at 4 Vécsey utca on Thursday, late in the evening. "They supposedly searched one of the law firms. Let's say it's interesting why at this time. It was quite late at night," wrote the author of the post.
According to address search engines available on the Internet, the law office of Csaba Tordai was registered at Vécsey utca 4.
During the opening of the City Hall gate and the presentation of the actors involved, Magyar Nemzet painted a detailed portrait of Csaba Tordai, who is none other than Ferenc Gyurcsány's state secretary, Gordon Bajnai's confidant, Gergely Karácsony's lawyer and chief advisor, and the lawyer is also at home in the world of Soros organizations. .
It should be remembered that the whole scandal erupted after the National Information Center (NIK) prepared for the National Security Committee of the Parliament on foreign influence on last year's elections, according to the summary material from June of this year, Gergely Karácsony's partner in dialogue, Gábor Perjés, nineteen times between August 2021 and September 2022 He paid HUF 506 million into the account of the 99 Movement, which he led and was founded by the mayor.
More than four-fifths of the money came to the movement in foreign currencies, euros and pounds.
Because of all this, NAV also initiated proceedings for budget fraud, money laundering, and the use of false private documents based on the OTP's report.
After the scandal broke out, the mayor argued that the extraordinary income came from micro-donations, which were collected in "small boxes". Karácsony later talked about "big boxes". At the same time, the bank denied this in its complaint, because according to the complaint, the banknotes – mostly with denominations of 50 and 100 euros – could actually have arrived in packages.
