Two members of the dog rescue organization Kutyák Határok Nélkül and the seven rescue dogs traveling with them were involved in a rare, serious and shocking accident.
It is only thanks to the tape barrier that an even bigger tragedy did not occur, when the car of the Hungarian rescue dogs was hit head-on by a Spanish truck, and then another ran into them from behind. The leader of Dogs Without Borders, Sarolta Leczki, is sure that they were watched over from above, because they survived the horrible, fatal accident with her colleague and the eight four-legged friends traveling with them.
On November 8, Sarolta Leczki and Erzsébet Kröpfl were on their way home from a training session with the rescue dogs, when the driver of a truck, due to an unexpected illness, broke through the dividing barrier and hit them at high speed from the opposite lane, and then the second truck behind them also hit them.
Their car was totaled, but thanks to great luck, no one in the vehicle was injured.
Even now, Sarolta Leczki shuddered at the moment when she looked up while reading in the car and saw a truck speeding towards them from the oncoming lane through the barrier. The leader of Dogs Without Borders knew that a head-on collision was inevitable, his first thought was: what will happen to the dogs traveling with them.
"I saw that there was no escape, the truck ran into the tape barrier, it was lucky that it overcame it about 200 meters away and crashed into us after slowing down a bit. But almost at the moment of impact, the Italian truck coming behind us ran into us from behind, despite the driver's best efforts, he could only stop by hitting us. We have altar luck! We could have all stayed there, but we survived!” - declares Leczki.
Erzsébet Kröpfl was driving the car, luckily she was able to climb out of the wreckage, and Leczki was able to get out easily.
"Our lives were saved, among other things, by the seat belts, and the dogs' lives were saved by the fact that they were traveling in a box. The driver of the truck that caused the accident fell ill while driving and could even have died before the impact. The French colleagues arrived with the police not long after the huge accident," Leczki said.
The French uniformed officers who arrived at the scene of the car accident - as soon as they found out that Sarolta Leczki was a Hungarian colleague - tried even harder to help.
"We are extremely grateful to the Sapeurs Pompiers du Val de Briey fire department, including commander Yannick Petrement, who helped not only on the scene," continued the world champion rescue dog specialist. "Until help reached us from home, they accommodated us in the barracks, but they helped us shop, accompanied us to the police to give a statement, they really helped us devotedly in everything, for which we would like to thank you here as well".
Sarolta Leczki is a world champion in search of ruins with her dog Karma, the same Karma who helped search for survivors in the search for survivors in the HUNOR professional rescue organization after the earthquake in Turkey this year. The owner of the car, Erzsébet Kröpfl, who is also a rescue dog, and Solka, who is still with her, were searching for survivors in the HUBA Rescue24 team with their two teammates.
Since the vehicle destroyed in the accident was Kröpfl's work car, a fundraiser is being organized for Erzsébet so that she can continue her daily life and rescue dog activities both domestically and internationally.
The organization emphasizes in the post: this is the first time in our 25-year career as a rescue dog that they are asking for social cooperation and help.
