Judging by the signs, Ukraine has no choice but to respect the acquired minority rights, no matter how reluctantly it does so.
Although Ukraine wants to join the European Union, Hungary will certainly not support it as long as the Hungarian minority's use of the language is restricted.
As is known, the latest idea was that in Transcarpathia, for example, the Hungarian language would be banned even during the breaks between classes, but doctors would not be able to consult with their patients in Hungarian either.
Among other things, the legislation was already criticized by the Venice Commission, but so far no changes have been made in the case of Ukrainian minorities.
However, according to press reports, the draft that has just been put together could be a step forward in the matter.
It is important for Ukraine to change the law restricting the rights of minorities, because without it it has no chance of joining the European Union.
That is why Kiev has now announced that it can restore the Hungarians' right to use the language, and for this purpose, according to the plans, they can apply to the 2017 Education Act as well as the 2019 Language Act.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has stated several times that in the last eight years we have continuously received promises from the Ukrainian authorities that they will solve this problem, but in fact they have not done anything.
