The MTA does not support the initiative, even though more than a thousand people identify themselves as Scythians.

The initiative of László Alfréd Pócs to declare the Scythians as a native ethnic group in Hungary was supported by 1,371 Hungarian citizens. After checking the valid signatures, Róbert Sasvári, the chairman of the National Election Commission (NVB), informed László Kövér about this, because the Parliament has the final say.

According to the law, one thousand Hungarian citizens had to certify with their signatures that the Scythians in Hungary belong to a minority and meet the conditions set out in the Minority Act.

They requested that the National Assembly recognize the Scythian ethnic group as a nationality based on the Nationalities Act, and include the Scythian alongside the 13 native nationalities recognized in Hungary.

In such cases, the National Election Commission is obliged to request the position of the president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), which Róbert Sasvári also attached to the Fidesz speaker.

Tamás Freund indicated that the scientific body did not support the declaration of the community in Hungary, which identifies itself as Scythians, as a native ethnic group.

According to the MTA, neither the physical nor the legal conditions exist for the Scythians, who have disappeared from the stage of history for more than two millennia (which as a collective term covers the ethnicity, language and culture of several former ethnic groups) to have their own traditions and language be recognized as a guardian native nationality in Hungary.
