Previously, EU officials believed that the Hungarian Prime Minister's words did not pose a threat to the upcoming EU summit.
"Orbán is preparing for a clash regarding Ukraine's membership," said Politico's Brussels morning newsletter. According to their report, the Hungarian Prime Minister "further increased his opposition to Ukraine's EU accession and
confirmed that he is ready to derail this month's EU summit, at which the leaders wanted to give the green light to the start of accession negotiations".
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, "Ukraine's membership is not compatible with Hungary's national interests", and Ursula von der Leyen "wants to force Ukraine's EU accession down our throats, without assessing the consequences for European taxpayers and farmers".
According to Politico, all this "shocked Brussels".
"until last week, senior officials and diplomats maintained that Orbán's threat was not a major concern for the summit".
