The Christmas shop closure initiative launched last month by the Civil Solidarity Forum – Civil Solidarity Non-profit Foundation (CÖF–CÖKA) and the Egyenlő.hu trade union proved to be a success, countless store chains joined in, so at today's press conference the two companies made new proposals supporting the public good and the workers organization towards multis.

Consensus decisions need to be made in the European Union (EU), which include the will of all the equal states - emphasized László Csizmadia, chairman of the CÖF-CÖKA board of trustees, at the press conference.

According to László Csizmadia, citizens entitled to vote in the Union will have the task in June 2024 not to trust representatives who sell out their country and the European Union.

As he said, "we can no longer wait for the major renovation of the EU's rusty machinery" until the elections, but the new representatives will have the opportunity to "take into account the principle of popular sovereignty".

László Csizmadia said

in the last five years, the EU leaders could have moved the "upside down" EU institutional system in the direction of the public good. Instead, however, corruption has strengthened, and the sanctions imposed due to the Russian-Ukrainian war are causing the decline of the European economy. He added: the EU bureaucracy hinders the quick administration of important matters of fate, while ignoring citizens' initiatives.

"The fundamental problem is that the European Parliament has an overpowering position in the field of legislation, and it has also developed an ability to blackmail," the chairman of the board of trustees pointed out. In his opinion, the heads of state and prime ministers bear the greatest responsibility in terms of politics and law. Above all else, they can guarantee the establishment of real EU democracy, he underlined.

László Csizmadia recorded that

the task of the European Commission (EC) is to formulate the legislation professionally based on the guidelines of the European Council, "no more, no less".

The EC is not called to consider itself a government body of the union, he emphasized.

He also touched on the fact that the European Parliament is a huge cost bearer with its glaring staff. At the same time, his opinions and decisions are often "not in a relationship of thanks" with the constitutions and legislation of the member states that also guarantee their sovereignty. In fact, it violates them, he stated.

Hungarians receive goods of a different quality than Western customers

Constitutional lawyer Zoltán Lomnici Jr., the spokesperson of CÖF-CÖKA, said: the Secretariat of the European Union Petitions Committee has completed the examination of László Csizmadia's submission on double-quality food. He recalled that in several Central and Eastern European member states, laboratory tests confirmed the differences between goods of the same brand and packaging. According to the results

the committee recognized that in many Central and Eastern European countries there are differences in quality and composition between products with the same brand marks.

The measure related to deceptions,

at the same time, the EU would transfer it, along with all its costs, to the Member State authorities

the spokesperson continued. He added: CÖF-CÖKA advocates that in such cases

if they recognize the presence of double-quality food, then the European Commission should file a lawsuit against the given company, since they can also cause health damage with poorer quality -,

, adding that they are satisfied with the results so far, but want to take further steps in the case.

László Csizmadia, chairman of the CÖF–CÖKA board of trustees, recalled:

the case started in 2017, and the answer only came now, which also shows the EU bureaucracy,

because they do not perform their activities quickly and efficiently there.

More suggestions for multis

Csaba Bubenko, the president of the modern trade union Egyenlő.hu, spoke about the fact that more and more people are joining their initiative to close the shops on December 24, which was launched jointly with CÖF-CÖKÁ. So far, Lidl, Rossmann, Penny, Montex, OBI, XXXLutz, Diego and Libri have indicated they will be closed on December 24, he said.

Among their other suggestions is that commercial stores can buy from the company where they work once a month at a purchase price plus VAT, as regulated in the employee decree. The union president added: this means a minimal loss of income for the department stores, but increases the commitment of the employees and their families. They will immediately submit their proposal to the ministry. In addition, I would like to achieve that

store employees should receive a "profit ticket" linked to additional profits, which would be tied to their contribution to the company's profits.

The union president also touched on the fact that they have begun to develop a store rating that is similar to the classification of restaurants according to Michelin stars. The rating would be given by the buyer and a professional committee in which any chain of stores can be represented in the evaluation process based on application. He added that food distribution must also be designed for the public good, taking the population's points of view into account.
