The Kossuth and Erkel Ferenc prize-winning composer did not expect that his rock opera István, a király, made with János Bródy, would be unfailingly popular for decades. The artist also talked about the unexpected success surrounding the work, which is 40 years old this year, as well as the viticulture, which is a source of refreshment for him, in the Duna Almárium program.

According to Levente Szörényi, it is scary to say that this year it has been four decades since Hungary's number one rock opera, István, a király, was presented. He has already said several times about the musical play that has become a classic: at the beginning it was not possible to see at all that its popularity would last so long.

"A few years ago, I found out through a very close experience that

this music can also appeal to the new generation.

My little grandson was only three years old when, jumping twenty centimeters from the ground, he sang "Abcug Koppány, down with him!" "" Levente Szörényi shared as a guest of the Duna Almárium program. Before the success of the rock opera István, the composer lived the busy days of artists as a member of the band Illés and then of Fonograph, and soon realized that he needed a calm place and activity that would give him new energy.

He has been engaged in grape growing since 1994, and has won several professional awards for his wines produced in the Balaton highlands.

"I got tired of my career, I felt that I had to leave the framework of art. I wanted to recharge my soul, so I bought a vineyard area where I do green work. My right wrist is now ruined, I worked so much, now I use electric pruning shears," added Levente Szörényi. The entire conversation can be viewed again on the Almárium's Media Click page .
