Almost five decades after the UNESCO award recognizing his sporting career as a fencer, Jenő Kamuti was awarded as a leader for his work in promoting fair play.

Jenő Kamuti visited Istanbul at the invitation of the President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, Ugur Erdener, to participate in the presentation of the sportsmanship awards as the President of the International Fair Play Committee, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

The Hungarian sports leader gave a speech and presented an award at the ceremony, and was then awarded the Order of Merit of the Turkish Olympic Committee for his work for the acceptance and popularization of fair play.

"The recognition was a huge surprise for me, I didn't expect that I would be among the honorees, and I would like to congratulate them. I am very happy because this is actually my second fair play award. I received the first one, the UNESCO fair play award, in 1977 for my fencing career, i.e. as an athlete, and I was able to receive the current one as a leader"

Jenő Kamuti, who has been at the head of the International Fair Play Committee since 2000, told MTI.
