Politico does not like the fact that "diplomats failed to break the stalemate created by Hungary".
In its Brussels newsletter this morning, in addition to embarrassing survey results for the EU (according to which more and more EU citizens feel that they have no influence on the EU), Politico also reported on another important thing. Namely, that "diplomats failed to break the deadlock created by Hungary regarding the financing of Ukraine and the accession negotiations before the meeting of the EU leaders at the end of this week".
"Those who hoped that the impasse between Hungary and the rest of the EU regarding Ukraine would be resolved at the ambassadors' meeting on Sunday were to be disappointed," they explained.
"According to two EU diplomats, no progress has been made after the day-long talks on the key issues, namely whether the EU will be able to disburse new funds to war-torn Ukraine, or whether the leaders will be able to start accession talks at the end of the week meeting".
"It's Orbán's season," they added, because according to their formulation, "the man blocking the entire continent's Ukraine policy is living his best days.
The paper also reports that after last week's talks with Emmanuel Macron and Pedro Sánchez, "Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán flew to Argentina to hug another rebel politician, the newly elected President Javier Milei."
