The Montágh Board of Public Media, true to tradition, published this year again which word it chose as the Word of the Year.
"The word of the Year 2023 expresses everything that is most needed right now: promise, hope, life, the main value, and the associated sacrificial, family-loving and community-building approach. The greatest treasure of the future is the child, and its message can bring hope," states the rationale of the Montágh Board established to nurture mother tongue culture.
The Montágh Board, with its initiative since 2020, strives to - although the rich vocabulary of the Hungarian language is exceptionally suitable for the extremely nuanced expression of thoughts - select every year the one word that best reflects the defining events of the given year and the changing circumstances, as well as global draws attention to the most important values among challenges.
The primary task of the Montágh Board, which advises, reviews, proposes and controls the public media, is to nurture the native language and behavioral culture, thereby supporting cultural value preservation and value creation.
Starting in 2020, the word of the year will be announced every year in December by the public service media based on the votes of the board members. In 2020, they chose each other, in 2021, family, and in 2022, peace.
