Izsák Balázs, the president of the Székely National Council (SZNT), has basically won the lawsuit filed by the Romanian gendarmerie regarding the fine imposed by the Romanian gendarmerie for organizing the Székely Freedom Day last year - this was announced by the person concerned himself on his social media page.
As he wrote, the Marosvásárhely court annulled the protocol of the fine imposed by the Marosvásárhely unit of the Romanian gendarmerie in its judgment announced on December 28, 2023.
Last March, the Romanian gendarmerie imposed a fine on Balázs Izsák for organizing the March 10, 2023 Székely Independence Day parade in Marosvásárhely. The 1,000 lei (77,000 HUF) fine was imposed for "holding a prohibited public event", six days after the parade.
In the report of the punishment, the gendarmerie claimed that
"Romanian laws forbid the dissemination of ideas about regionalization and territorial autonomy" , and the gendarmerie even classifies territorial autonomy demanded on the basis of ethnic criteria as chauvinism.
In its basic judgment of December 28, 2023, the court in Marosvásárhely invalidated the record of the fine and also ordered the gendarmerie to pay the 300 lei court costs, according to the judgment published by the SZNT president.
The court's decision is not final and can be appealed within 30 days.
On March 10 last year, after a gap of several years, the SZNT again organized the Székely Freedom Day, which, according to the organization, was attended by 1,500-2,000 people.
