The Office for the Protection of Sovereignty will start its operations on February 1, the invited president of the organization announced on Saturday in a video shared on the government's Facebook page.

Tamás Lánczi called it important that the organization is not an authority, but an office, so it does not investigate or impose sanctions.

The primary task of the Sovereignty Protection Office is to conduct investigations, research and uncover the risks that

"they are lurking on Hungarian sovereignty, and you should do everything possible to avert these dangers"

he announced.

According to Tamás Lánczi, the office's first task will be to prepare for the next two elections to be held in June.

He pointed out that there will be a European Parliament election and a local authority election at the beginning of the summer. He added that after the 2022 parliamentary elections, it came to light what attempts to influence him had taken place.

"The first task of the office will be to prevent this from happening again"

said the invited leader.

According to him, in Europe, but especially in Central Europe, numerous attempts to influence have taken place and are taking place: the "democratic formation of the will" is diverted by external forces from the way it is otherwise required by the laws of the given state.

"Public discourse is being manipulated, foreign actors hiding behind civil organizations are making politics or trying to make politics, limiting public discourse. The negative trends that were present in Hungary and can also be observed abroad could be listed at length."

said Tamás Lánczi.
