For Hungary, European Union resources are important, regardless of Ukraine, the position of the Moon or the Martians, the Hungarian Foreign Minister reminded.

If everything goes well, a Hungarian-Ukrainian foreign minister meeting may take place on January 29 in Ungvár, during which the parties will review issues of bilateral cooperation, Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday in Budapest.

At the same time, the head of the ministry emphasized: a possible Hungarian-Ukrainian summit makes sense if it can lead to significant results, and for this, adequate preparation is necessary.

To this end, a meeting between him and his Ukrainian official counterpart, Dmitro Kuleba, is scheduled to take place in Ungvár on January 29, to review the issues of bilateral cooperation from beginning to end, and to examine whether a high-level meeting can help move relations forward. , or what other work needs to be done in order for the leaders of the two countries to meet with the hope of success - Szijjártó added.

I am ready, I will continue to provide the greatest possible protection for that day in the calendar, so January 29 is now, in principle, intended for both of us to meet in Ungvár, said the minister, who also announced: With Andriy Jermak, the Ukrainian presidential office he is also happy to sit down to discuss with his manager, but he has not yet received a proposal for a date.

"I'm still here and I'm waiting for a date proposal to arrive, and then I'll meet him if necessary. If it is enough with Minister Kuleba, that is of course the internal decision of the Ukrainians, we will not interfere in that," he added.

Péter Szijjártó asked to avoid a "bazaar atmosphere" in relation to the frozen European Union funds, stressing that it is not a matter of bargaining and that matters that have nothing to do with each other should not be mixed up.

"For Hungary, European Union funds are available. Regardless of Ukraine, the position of the moon or the Martians,” he declared.

"These resources must be paid to Hungary. The European Commission has no legal reason to withhold these funds," he added.

He underlined that EU funds are the result of the work of Europeans, including Hungarians, and their distribution must be based on legislation, while this is not happening now, but a significant part of the money due to our country is still being blocked for political reasons.

And this is completely independent of any country wishing to join, so our demand remains clear: give the European Union funds - concluded Péter Szijjártó.
