Some started demonstrating even though the president of the National Pedagogical Faculty said the government had fulfilled its commitment.
The United Student Front announced another demonstration for Saturday in front of the Ministry of the Interior building. In a video uploaded to its social media page, the organization was baffled by the increase in teachers' wages announced by the government, and the young people, who did not refrain from profanity, talked about the fact that the government lied.
The timing of the demonstration is particularly interesting in light of the fact that, according to the president of the National Faculty of Education, the government has fulfilled its commitment. According to Péter Horváth, the current wage increase is in line with the government's commitment that from January 1, 2024, teacher wages will rise to 72 percent of the average graduate wage.
the Index's report, it can be concluded that the event was not very popular, because according to the portal's coverage, only a few hundred people showed up at the event, which was announced for 3:00 p.m., even ten minutes after the start time.
Among the speakers, the representative of the PDSZ was dissatisfied with the wage increase, saying that with 20 percent inflation, this is only a 12.2 percent wage increase. "We deserve more than that," he pointed out. He noted:
we continue, because if there is no teacher, there is no future".
The usual cardboard puppet intermezzo could not be left out at the current demonstration either. After the speech of Noel Perlaki-Borsos, one of the activists of the EDF, two more students took the stage, and they brought Sándor Pintér wearing a clown costume with them as a puppet. It was announced that the police would not allow the cardboard mannequin to be thrown and knocked down, so they decided instead to hypnotize it and "put it to sleep" in this way.
Péter Juhász joined the party
Péter Juhász, the mayoral candidate of the V. district, who was referred to as "the terror of Antal Rogán", also spoke at the event. As mayor, I cannot change the future of education, but it is certain that I will not make the same mistakes as my predecessors - said the politician, referring to the fact that the building of the Ministry of the Interior could also be a hotel today, and that "Sándor Pintér would look good as a receptionist". The politician running in the colors of the MKKP declared: now there is only one task, to chase the minister. He told me that
as a future mayor, he will do everything to improve education at least locally.
As promised, the students finished the demonstration after about an hour. Noel Perlaki-Borsos concluded as follows:
"Thanks to the police who gave us tea this time and not tear gas",
and the crowd chanted "let's continue".
