The peculiar situation arose that neither the leader of Russia nor Ukraine took part in the negotiations aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Davos World Economic Forum begins on January 15, but important issues were discussed in the Swiss city a day before. About 81 national security advisers participated in the fourth meeting organized to develop and support the Ukraine peace plan on Sunday, which is the largest so far after previous meetings in Copenhagen, Jeddah and the most recent one in Malta in October.
At the meeting in Malta, the first five points of the peace plan were already discussed: nuclear issues, food and energy security, the release of prisoners, including children, and the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Officials are confident that the Malta meeting and Sunday's will lead to a date for a global peace summit, where they can secure their support for the peace plan developed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president did not participate in the Sunday meeting.
In November, a high-ranking official in Kyiv said that a summit meeting could take place in February 2024, where they could already discuss the implementation of the draft, but Ukraine, meanwhile, fears that the war in Gaza will make it difficult to gain diplomatic support and distract attention from the war in Ukraine.
Russia - which launched a war against Ukraine in February 2022 - will not participate in the negotiations on the peace draft, as they rejected the peace formula, saying it would be impossible to implement.
However, some still believe that if the peace plan is adopted, it will force Russia to negotiate.
