In 2023, the Montágh Board, created to nurture the mother tongue culture of the public media, chose the term child as the Word of the Year.
Kautzky Armand Jászai Mari and Imre Wacha prize-winning actor, member of the organization, host of the Duna channel, emphasized the importance of the term as a guest of Család-barát.
Each year, the members of the Montágh Board, the public media's advisory, commenting, proposing and monitoring committee, select the one word that most reflects the events of the given year, as well as draws attention to the most important value among the changing circumstances and global challenges. In 2023, the term child was chosen as the word of the year, as this word has carried hope and the promise of the future for thousands of years. As a member of the board, Armand Kautzky spoke in Duna's morning magazine about the public media's goal in choosing the word of the year.
"The child is the pledge of trust in the future, which is why we are responsible for it: it is up to us what kind of world we leave to our descendants. At the same time, it is a multifaceted word that symbolizes important and timeless qualities, such as purity, honesty, innocence or playfulness. Keeping in mind the board's mission, it also expresses that we should take care of our mother tongue in the same way as a mother loves, fears and protects her child"
- emphasized the actor, presenter, member of the Montágh Board.
The public media announced not only the Word of the Year, but also the Person of the Year: in recognition of his outstanding scientific work and social activity, he awarded it this year to the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ferenc Krausz. Biochemist Katalin Karikó, who was also awarded the Nobel Prize last year, was the first to receive the Public Media Person of the Year Award in 2021.
