The Ukrainian army shot down a plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war in the airspace of the Belgorod region of Russia, Lieutenant General Igor Konasenkov, the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, announced on Wednesday. The list of passengers on board the plane includes several Hungarian-sounding names.

A list of the soldiers who were on board the Russian plane that was shot down on Wednesday morning was published on the social network. The document also contains several Hungarian-sounding names.

According to Igor Konasenkov, at 9:15 a.m. CET on Wednesday morning, "the Ukrainian regime in Kyiv committed an act of terrorism" by shooting down a Russian military transport plane carrying Ukrainian soldiers on the Chkalovsky-Belgorod route for a prisoner exchange. As he said, the Ukrainian armed forces shot down the plane with an anti-aircraft missile system from the Lipci settlement in the Kharkiv area, and Russian radar equipment observed the launch of two Ukrainian missiles.

On board the Il-76 aircraft were six crew members, 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war intended for exchange and three accompanying Russian soldiers. The plane's crew and all passengers lost their lives.

"The Ukrainian leadership was well aware that, in accordance with established practice, Ukrainian soldiers intended for prisoner exchange are being taken to the Belgorod airport today by military transport planes. According to a previous agreement, this event would have taken place in the afternoon at the Kolotyilovka checkpoint on the Russian-Ukrainian border," said the general.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement strongly rejecting the "terrorist act", which it described as deliberate and deliberate, and said the perpetrators would be identified and prosecuted under Russian law.

"We believe that international organizations, national governments and the world community must condemn this terrorist attack and other crimes committed by the Kyiv regime. Their silence will mean support for barbarism and terrorist behavior," the resolution read.

The diplomatic ministry pointed out that the Ukrainian side first celebrated the downing of the plane as a victory, and then, after it was revealed that there were Ukrainian soldiers on board, began to deny that it had anything to do with the disaster.
