For the ninth time, the National Theater hosted the performances of the Pajtszínházi Szemle, during which acting groups from 19 municipalities of the 19 counties presented their productions made in the past months.

On the occasion of the event held on January 27 and 28, comedies, a selection of poems by Petőfi, and classics by Ferenc Molnár added color to this year's program, the Hungarian Theater Society announced on Monday.

The announcement recalls that the Barn Theater Program has been implemented since 2015 in cooperation with the National Institute of Culture, the Hungarian Theater Society and the National Theatre.

The aim of the program is to revive and popularize village drama, which has significant traditions in our country, and to build creative and culture-loving communities.

Each year, one settlement of Hungary's 19 counties participates in the program. The barn theater communities born in this way present their performances at the final event of the program, the Barn Theater Show, on the studio stages of the National Theatre.

The work of the troupes is supported by acting and drama teacher mentors from the Hungarian Theater Society, accompanying them through every stage of the creative process, from the first ideas and planning, through rehearsals, to the premiere.

The review is also a tribute to the traditions of the barn theater genre and to Hungarian Culture Day.
