He wasn't looking for a warmer climate in winter.
Although most storks do not spend the cold months in Hungary, there are specimens that stay here all year round. Kikelet, the currently known stork that has been wintering here for the longest time, arrived in mid-January and traditionally found a nest in Hortobágy.
In February, she used to put her home in order and wait for her partner. It was announced in the Facebook group Telelő golyák – Gólyateletletes that Kikelet arrived at Hortobágy on January 24, 2024, according to the usual schedule.
Mária Molnár, who has been monitoring the movements of the storks for years, read his ring number, making sure that it was Kikelet. The freshman is no longer young and suffered serious injuries in 2007 when he collided with a power line. At the time, they saw little hope for his recovery, but fortunately, he is now well and particularly in good health.
