The European Parliament's action on Monday was again motivated by "launching an attack against Hungary based on the most obvious disgraceful lies." Against the radical left-wing, progressive Hungarian dollar-leftist attempt, it was not possible to create a political debate or conflict between the governments of Italy and Hungary, stated Tamás Deutsch, the Fidesz member of parliament in Strasbourg.
The ruling party politician then told MTI that
on Monday, the European Parliament held a debate on the situation of detainees in Hungarian prisons and the detention conditions of Ilaria Salis, the Italian defendant in the anti-fa attacks.
In his statement, Tamás Deutsch emphasized:
Ilaria Salis "is a foreign, progressive, radical left-wing, neo-communist thug, who came to Hungary with nineteen other companions only to attack people in a premeditated, vile way, whom they classify as neo-fascists based on their appearance and clothing."
He drew attention to the fact that the "beater" was smiling at the court hearing, even though she had abused several randomly selected Hungarian and foreign citizens with her companions so severely that "according to the medical expert's opinion, it was only a lucky coincidence that the crime was serious bodily harm and not murder, it does not constitute murder.”
He recalled that "security surveillance cameras clearly show that randomly selected people were attacked from behind, blown up and beaten in the head."
"All people of good sense, Hungarian and non-Hungarian, are on the side of the victim. It is outrageous that in the past year, the three perpetrators in pre-trial detention in Hungary did not inquire about the well-being of their victims even once," he pointed out.
According to Deutsch, the
"Hungarian dollar media is also in solidarity with the perpetrator and deals with the blatant lies about his detention that the beater herself invented."
He noted that the dollar left failed to provoke tension between the Hungarian and Italian governments, but emphasized that the Italian authorities should step up their efforts to find and arrest one of the Italian perpetrators, whose identity and contact information they know.
The Fidesz representative also emphasized that Hungary has no intention of creating luxury prisons like the one where Eva Kaili, the vice president of the European Parliament involved in the corruption scandal, was held.
Tamás Deutsch told those who "raise their word for the dignity of the neo-communist beater" that there are indeed many criminals convicted of crimes in prison in Hungary.
"Hungary also responded to this. We will build prisons to reduce overcrowding. There may be many convicts in prison in Hungary and the prisons are overcrowded, but that is precisely why the situation is not the same as in Western Europe. There are no criminals on the streets in Hungary. It is right if the perpetrator is in prison and not on the street, because apparently Western Europe is already moving in that direction." he noted.
He also added
the European Parliament's action on Monday was again motivated by "launching an attack on Hungary based on the most obvious shameful lies."
Hungary did not get a say, the European Parliament does not respect the rule of law
Enikő Győri, the Fidesz EP representative, highlighted in her statement to MTI:
"The European Parliament cannot sink much deeper, since it has put this debate on its agenda to create tension between the Hungarian and Italian governments expressly for the purpose of creating a political mood."
He recalled: "a year ago, a group of foreigners calling themselves anti-fascists arrived in Budapest, they were looking for a Nazi parade to break it up, but they didn't find one, because Nazis are not allowed to march in Hungary. Therefore, they randomly selected people walking on the street, judged them to be Nazis based on their clothing and brutally assaulted them."
According to Enikő Győri, the European Parliament is currently in the position of "giving credit to a person accused of a very serious crime - who was also found to be lying during the proceedings". According to the politician, it is unfortunate that the European Commission forgot to find out about Hungarian conditions before the debate.
He also emphasized that
during the parliamentary debate, the representative of the Hungarian government was not allowed to speak, as should be the case during a fair procedure.
It can be clearly stated: the plenary agenda item initiated by the European left is an attempt to politically influence the independent Hungarian justice system without the opportunity for Hungarian representatives to speak, he added.
"During the debate, the left-wing representatives made false accusations, but the right-wing representatives stated that this matter was not on the agenda of the plenary session. It is blood-curdling that this discussion could take place at all," said the representative.
He added: "Hungary did not get a say, which shows that this European Parliament does not respect the rule of law, the basic values of the European Union, such as the right to a fair trial."
As he said, judging by the comments of the right-wing factions of the EP, the attempt to bring the Italian conservative government together with the Hungarian one did not succeed.
According to Enikő Győri, the European Parliament "is losing its remaining credibility in the eyes of European citizens, so it is very important that in June people choose another parliament that deals with what it is supposed to do."
"EU legislation should serve the lives of citizens. And not to judge in lip service cases," he said.
Rome does not request Budapest to place the far-left activist under house arrest
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio emphasized in a joint statement on Monday evening that respecting the legal sovereignty of the countries
they do not intervene in the court proceedings initiated against the far-left activist under arrest in Hungary, so they do not initiate house arrest either.
The joint statement was issued after the two ministers received Roberto Salis, the father of Italian citizen Ilaria Salis, who is under arrest in Budapest, and Eugenio Lasco, the detainee's lawyer, separately.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Justice emphasized that they are monitoring the case of Ilaria Salis. They are committed to respecting the rights of the accused Italian citizen. At the same time, it was stated that every state has legal independence, and according to this, there was no possibility of "interference, neither with regard to the development of the court proceedings, nor with regard to the modification of the placement of the accused person during the legal proceedings".
The two ministers did not consider it possible the request of Roberto Salis and the lawyer that the woman be placed under house arrest at the Italian embassy in Budapest for the duration of the court hearing.
The Italian authorities called the latter "different from the procedural rules", which would be unacceptable for foreign judicial bodies, they said.
In the announcement, Antonio Tajani emphasized that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni personally approached Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on the matter, and Tajani himself consulted with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. He reminded that on January 30, the Hungarian ambassador in Rome was also summoned to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Justice Minister Carlo Nordio believed that the defendant's defense should advocate house arrest, which could be followed by the transfer of Ilaria Salis to an Italian prison after a possible criminal conviction.
Lawyer Eugenio Lasco stated that both the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice ruled out the possibility of placing Ilaria Salis under house arrest in Italy before the conclusion of the proceedings in Hungary.
Italian diplomacy will not intervene, as the ministries say the court is independent . We hope that this is also the case in Hungary," stated the lawyer.
The father, Roberto Salis, said the meeting with Tajani and Nordio "went worse than expected".
"The Italian government does not want to do anything, everything depends on the Hungarian court," he said. He believed that they were left alone, that his daughter would remain in prison until the court verdict. "But you can die in that prison," he declared.
He said that, according to Tajani and Nordio, there are 2,500 Italians in prisons abroad, and a single case cannot be an exception for intervention.
Antonio Tajani will give a parliamentary report on the Salis case on February 8.
Ilaria Salis, who is currently in pre-trial detention, was charged with three counts of attempting to commit life-threatening bodily harm in a criminal organization, in two cases as an accomplice and in one case as an accessory to a crime.
