This situation is a school example of self-deception, where the opposition fights against the phantom it has manufactured instead of reality.
"The opposition press chews, kisses, makes waves on Transparency International's latest corruption list, on which Hungary ranks last in the EU. This is another example of why the domestic opposition is so hopelessly unsuccessful.
This situation is a school example of self-deception, where the opposition fights against the phantom it has manufactured instead of reality.
I wrote about this ten years ago, let me quote from it:
»The Hungarian opposition has created its own virtual world. In this world, Viktor Orbán is an evil tyrant, the leaders of Fidesz are corrupt villains, and the participants of the peace march are brainless zombies. Just like in a computer game. The opposition in this game wins several times a day. They already have two million points and have moved up six levels. You are the best, the computer says after every turn. And they don't understand why they lose in the elections.«
The current game is played as follows: the opposition talks about corruption incessantly in every existing forum.
Then a »civil organization« comes and prepares the so-called corruption detection index. And behold a miracle: people perceive corruption.
If the newspapers all wrote that there was a bear threat in Budapest's Városliget, within two days a dozen people would report that they had seen the bear. Except there's no bear.
There is corruption, but it is not higher than in similar countries. Therefore, people vote accordingly – for the governing parties. The opposition doesn't understand."
