According to the European Commission's point of view, certain provisions of the Hungarian Sovereignty Protection Act are contrary to EU law, which is why the procedure applicable in such cases has been initiated, reports the HVG .
According to the official justification, the European Commission believes that
the Hungarian Sovereignty Protection Act violates many provisions of primary and secondary EU law,
such as the right to respect for private and family life, the right to the protection of personal data, and the freedom of expression and information.
Hungary was given two months to respond to the notice letter,
if the answer is not considered acceptable, the procedure is moved to the next stage. In the last case, the European Court of Justice can decide on the legal dispute.
