During this winter, as every year, nature conservation specialists conducted a synchronized count of the wildebeest throughout the country. In the process, the number of wintering birds was also assessed in the Bihari Plain Landscape Unit.
Gábor Simay, an employee of the National Park's Nature Guard, draws attention to the fact that at this time of the year, grouse gather in groups and wait for the arrival of spring and the start of the rutting season on various agricultural crops or grasslands, mostly traditional wintering areas.
"The wintering flocks can typically count from one to two dozen to over a hundred birds," he explains.
This winter, one of the best results of the past decades was achieved in the Bihari Plain Landscape Unit.
The participants in the count registered a total of 351 examples of badgers.
A total of 537 specimens were observed in the entire area of jurisdiction of the Hortobágy National Park Directorate during the synchronization.
Many birds were also counted in another of our national parks
In the middle of January, the synchronized counting of the international grouse also took place in the Körös-Maros National Park. In the process, a total of six hundred and forty-one birds were registered. The numbers show that the stock is stable and even growing year by year.
According to the information of the national park, the most significant herd has been living in the Dévaványa-Ecseg wastelands for many years. An exceptionally good result was achieved in the area: five hundred and forty-three grouse were counted.
Three hundred of them are roosters, and two hundred and forty-three are eggs.
