Saint George's Days, conceived as a celebration of encounters, takes place between April 23 and 28.
The town days of Sepsiszentgyörgy kick off the series of festivals in Transylvania. Saint George's Days, conceived as a celebration of encounters, take place between April 23 and 28, preceded by a zero day with theatrical and literary events. The city days of Sepsiszentgyörgy offer around 150 cultural and entertainment programs in seven days, the organizers announced on Wednesday.
On this year's Saint George's Day, the event venue in the museum garden, which many have missed, and the wine court in the garden of the renovated Székely National Museum will return, and the craft fair will be extended from the town's main square to the former Tobacco factory, thus occupying Károly Kós Street.
According to Mayor Árpád Antal, the city's biggest community holiday will be the 31st organized St. George's Days, which in the past three decades has become a celebration of reunions, as many people time their visits home to the city days, so the event creates an opportunity to meet old acquaintances and friends to meet
According to deputy mayor Fruzsina Vargha, this year the Saint George Days will not start with the traditional opening concert, because at the request of the city's cultural institutions, a so-called zero day has been set for April 22, when the Áron Tamási theater will present its latest performance and literary events will take place. And on April 23, the cultural week will continue with a festive concert by local and invited artists.
The organizers of Szent György Napok, as usual, are delaying the publication of the full list of musical performers, as negotiations are still ongoing with some performers. Ildikó Knop, the main organizer of the city days, informed me that this year the Csík band will perform, supplemented by LGT's guitarist, János Karácsony, so the usual repertoire will also be supplemented with legendary LGT songs. The other performer will be Connect-R, a popular artist of the Hungarian pop and hip-hop scene.
According to Ildikó Knop, this year they are trying to reduce the amount of garbage produced by city days and will introduce returnable beer glasses for the pubs, as well as create an opportunity to drop off the packaging materials for bottled and aluminum can drinks in the area of the event. According to calculations, this can reduce the amount of garbage to be transported by up to 60 percent.
Deputy Mayor Fruzsina Vargha draws the attention of artisans to the fact that they can register for the Saint George's Day Fair until April 7. At the same time, until March 22nd, program proposals for the Community Theater in the courtyard of the Kónya Ádám Cultural Center are being accepted. In a similar way, local bands and DJs are expected to apply for the youth base located in the yard of the former Tobacco Factory until March 18.
