The prime minister is speaking for the first time since the pardon case erupted, and the political debates that have arisen around it are creating a particularly high interest in the prime minister's speech.
Viktor Orbán will deliver his 25th annual review speech on February 17, at 2:30 p.m.
In accordance with tradition, the Prime Minister evaluates the year left behind us in the Várkert Bazaar. It should be noted that Viktor Orbán typically does not evaluate within a narrower annual framework, his speech offers a broader outlook with a strategic arc. In 1999, the prime minister gave a speech assessing the situation for the first time.
What can we expect in the afternoon?
Every year, the event receives a lot of media attention, but this year's speech is preceded by particularly great interest, as it will be Viktor Orbán's first speech since Katalin Novák and Judit Varga resigned due to the pardon case.
The prime minister will probably respond to the domestic political events of the past two weeks, and Viktor Orbán will also select the main topics of the EP and local government elections, as well as provide answers to the long-term challenges facing the country.
Political scientist Zoltán Kiszelly, the director of Századvég, said how he thinks the controversial pardon case will be placed in Viktor Orbán's speech.
The government is clearly focusing on the constitutional amendment, which was adopted just a day or two after the case broke out. Since the prime minister is introducing the amendment to the basic law, he made it clear that there is no change in the government's policy: the commitment to child protection and the stance against gender propaganda remain unchanged, even if some politicians have made mistakes. These are the topics that were the main focus during the national consultation and the 2022 child protection referendum.
said Zoltán Kiszelly.
