The Union of Values ​​Association organized around Hans-Georg Maassen, the former president of the German Federal Constitutional Protection Office (constitutional court), who left the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) became a party.

Maassen and his supporters founded the new party on a ship on the Rhine, accepting its program and constitution. The 61-year-old Maassen announced his candidacy for the position of party president.

He announced the founding of the party at the January meeting of the association close to the CDU in Erfurt.

The Value Union intends to run in the local state elections in Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia this September.

Speaking to tv.berlin TV, Maassen said on Friday evening that the Value Union wants to fill the void between the conservative union parties, CDU/CSU, and the radical right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, who have "left their way", and wants to stand up for classic bourgeois values. , which made Germany great.

Maassen, against whom the CDU presidency initiated expulsion proceedings in 2023, left the party in January.

The Value Union is already the second German political party established this year. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) was founded at the beginning of the year by the eponymous former left-wing politician.
