He noticed a muscle fever, and then he felt as if a "road roller was pressing on his chest".
János Lackfi had a heart attack on Szenteste. The well-known Hungarian poet reported on the incident on December 24 last year on his social media page. He became aware of a muscle fever, then he felt as if a "road roller was pressing on his chest", his arm went numb, his forehead was hit by water, and finally he collapsed on the bed.
I shout at my wife, my eight-year-old daughter would run away in terror, I selfishly beg her to stay, I hug her and Juli, because it might be the last time.
We call the doctor, then the ambulance, the dispatcher stays on the line the whole time. Our grand daughter runs out onto the main road to direct the ambulance to our house. I could have had a seizure on the other side of the country, during a performance, or when I was driving, I could have been all alone"
- said János Lackfi.
The József Attila Prize-winning poet takes medication and has to change his lifestyle, but he also sees the positive side of this. He was transferred from Városmajor to Balatonfüred, where he is being rehabilitated.
"I lost ten kilos, I liked to eat thick, now I like thin. Since then, I've been doing ten thousand steps, sometimes fifteen thousand, and I've been doing physical therapy.
I cry a little more often. I can mourn, but I can also laugh.
Somehow, everything around me had depth. I'm discovering my new life"
he published in the post.
