The HVG, which is far from pro-government, published details from a document allegedly forged by Judit Varga's ex-husband. For weeks, Hungarians have been floating the idea that government propaganda baselessly accuses them of wife-beating.
After several times in recent weeks that he would be assaulted with woman-beating because of his political performance - even though no public figure had made such an accusation against him until Sunday evening - Péter Magyar came up with new details on Monday after his outburst on Sunday, the Mandiner writes in its summary.
The chief of police ordered an internal investigation, as Judit Varga's ex-husband made strong accusations against the authority, to put it mildly. As he wrote and repeated on Sunday: in his opinion, Antal Rogán and the "whisper propaganda" are spreading about him that he beat the mother of his children several times, and the police had to be called.
Magyar also talked about the fact that a "secret" police report was prepared in the case.
According to his writing, he was contacted two weeks ago by a journalist from a news portal - whom he already named on Monday: András Dezső, the author of HVG - with the intention of talking to him about a police report, which was made after a family dispute with Judit Varga on December 29, 2020. was made.
After all this, the clarifying article of Dezső's paper, which can hardly be accused of being pro-government, was published. HVG's article on Monday takes a thorough look at the past period, focusing on that particular fight at the end of 2020. Of course, Magyar wrote about this, "our simple family dispute was colored with untrue allegations in such a way that the report suggested that I acted violently towards my wife and the state bodyguards who were protecting her at the time".
However, the fact-finding article of the HVG and the official report described therein contradict this.
First of all: the document does not include the secret or confidential classification, but the policeman wrote that the then Minister of Justice Judit Varga requested that the case be treated confidentially. The newspaper claims that it has verified from a source independent of the leaker that the report was indeed prepared when the events took place.
According to the article, the policeman who was protecting Judit Varga at the time wrote about the antecedents of the quarrel: the minister asked her to go with him to their apartment, so he could witness the couple's increasingly loud argument.
According to his own statement, the policeman perceived that Varga was visibly afraid and would have been in a vulnerable position without the presence of the authorities.
He tried to leave the apartment, which, according to the document, Magyar did not allow, saying
his wife can't go anywhere, she can't take the children with her (who weren't there at the time).
As described, the man threatened to
you'll regret this later, they won't believe you anyway. The whole government will fall for this, I'm making a huge scandal out of this."
According to the report, the hot-tempered husband also got into a fight with the policeman who was standing next to Varga, who arrived at the new scene ahead of his wife, who eventually got free and reached the children in another apartment in a police car. However, the police did not let Magyar into the apartment, in the end
According to the report, Judit Varga also went to Miskolc with the children in a police car.
The HVG article mentions that the report does not mention any wrongdoing, and no proceedings were initiated in the matter. Even if, according to the police officer, Magyar "endangered the life and physical integrity of those around him while driving a vehicle, he did not comply with the police summons reluctantly or at all, his aggressive, intimidating and threatening behavior was capable of causing alarm and scandal in others" .
The article also mentions that
Magyar spoke with the journalist who obtained the report for several hours, later blocked his statement, and then exposed his ominous post discussing the falsified report.
Later, he also named Dezső and demanded a police investigation into the matter.
