It is extremely important to maintain and deepen the dialogue between Poland and Hungary, President Tamás Sulyok said on Friday at a joint press conference with President Andrzej Duda in Ószandec (Stary Sacz) in southern Poland.

The President of the Hungarian Republic came to Poland on a working visit on the occasion of the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day (March 23).

Tamás Sulyok reminded that Polish-Hungarian friendship goes back more than a thousand years and is deeply rooted in Hungarian society. He added: we Central and Eastern Europeans have a common destiny and common tasks, and this has connected the two countries since St. Kinga.

The Hungarian president said:

the meeting discussed, among other things, the Three Seas Initiative, the importance of military development, minorities and trade relations between countries.

We are talking about two nations that respect and value freedom - pointed out Tamás Sulyok, emphasizing: the Hungarians and the Poles always knew that it was necessary to fight for freedom, and history has always proved that Europe can only be united and cooperated by the two countries to be a free, equal, rapidly developing state and nation.

Tamás Sulyok stated that the two countries have several common interests in foreign policy as well. Hungary is proud that its national defense expenditures reach two percent of its GDP, and it is important for the development of the armed forces, as it is for Poland.

National minorities also connect the two countries,

and since, for example, there is a Polish minority community living in Kaposvár, he invites President Andrzej Duda to Kaposvár next year to celebrate the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day.

Tamás Sulyok highlighted:

both are open to dialogue and cooperation, which is important in terms of approaching different points of view.

He also said: Poland was Hungary's third largest trading partner in 2023, and this is an important factor in the relationship between the countries. Relations between the legislative bodies and parliaments of the two countries are also intense, he added.

Regarding the Three Seas Initiative and the Bucharest Nine, he said that both Andrzej Duda and himself consider them important. All projects that support Central European cohesion and economic recovery are extremely useful, said the President of the Hungarian Republic.

On Saturday, László Sulyok places the wreath of remembrance at St. Hedvig's grave in Wawel Cathedral.
