The unusual story could easily be a world record.
In April 2016, a white stork came to the Dömös Bird Park and Nature Rescue Center with a gunshot wound, and András Márton, the owner and manager of the rescue center, named him Macus.
After his rehabilitation, Macus did not leave for the winter, because his injury turned out to be permanent: he has not been able to fly since then. András Márton made a nest stand for the bird in the early spring of 2017, and Szofi, the egg, arrived at Macus in the middle of April of that year. That year, the stork's love produced four chicks.
Since then, Sófi flies to Africa at the end of every summer, and returns to her partner, Macus, in the spring. On March 23, 2023, Sófi landed for the sixth time after her long migration in the nest in Dömös, and at the end of the summer she flew to Africa as usual.
Sófi returned to Macus for the seventh time, arriving at the nest in Dömös at 15:40 on March 22, 2024.
We were very worried because Sofi is a very old egg. We didn't expect him to come back. His partner also only "waited moderately", in truth, he had already started courting another young freshman in the past few days. But Sofi has arrived, so Panka seems to stay in the party
– András Márton told the Multi-colored region.
The bird rescuer also said that the bird shows that it has been damaged by the road, that it is in a weakened state, but that it will be strengthened. They hope that there will be eggs and chicks in the nest this year as well.
