Suspicions of a crime are being investigated in connection with the sms scandal of the politician intending to be re-elected.
The case was brought from the Belgian prosecutors to the European Public Prosecutor's Office, in which they are investigating suspicion of a crime in connection with the vaccine negotiations between Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, and the CEO of Pfizer.
"Interference in public tasks, destruction of text messages, corruption and conflict of interest"
– is stated in the legal documents of the investigation, which landed at Politico's editorial office. Charges have not yet been filed in the investigation that was originally launched in early 2023.
The report was made by a certain lobbyist Frédéric Baldan, which centered on an alleged exchange of text messages between Von der Leyen and Albert Bourla, the head of Pfizer, which was supposed to be about the EU's biggest vaccine deal at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Hungarian and Polish governments also joined the complaint, but the Polish side withdrew the complaint after the election victory of Donald Tusk.
The value of the purchases exceeds 20 billion euros, according to Politico, the case came before the European Public Prosecutor's Office at a particularly delicate moment, because Ursula von der Leyen recently announced that she would be re-elected as head of the commission.
