Pope Francis condemned abortion, surrogacy, sex reassignment and gender theory as crimes against human dignity in a statement released by the Vatican on Monday.
The twenty-page declaration entitled Infinite dignity, which has been in the works for five years, has undergone significant changes in recent months. Pope Francis approved the document on March 25 and ordered its publication.
The doctrine clearly states that the Vatican rejects gender theory or the idea that a person's sex can be changed.
According to the document, God created man and woman as biologically distinct, separate beings, and this plan cannot be opposed by humans.
According to the document, human life - including the fetus - is sacred and inviolable, and termination of pregnancy deprives the "most vulnerable" of their human dignity.
The Vatican's latest statement draws a parallel between abortion and surrogacy, which, as described, treat the child as an object and humiliate and exploit the mother, among other things, for the purpose of making a profit.
At a press conference on the statement, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, head of the Dicastery for Theology, stated on Monday that the Vatican does not support legislation criminalizing homosexuality and called their introduction a "serious problem".
